West Lake Hills City Council discussed July 20 setting aside $3.3 million in a savings account during the next fiscal year, which runs from Sept. 30, 2016 to Oct. 1, 2017. Council members are expected to pass a resolution at a future meeting that states the money from the stabilization cash reserve fund, or emergency reserves fund, should be used on a “rare and extraordinary event,” such as a natural or man-made disaster, an unanticipated reduction of state or city revenue, or the one-time funding of a capital project that will bring the city recurring revenues or spending decreases. A total of $2.4 million has been set aside to cover this. The resolution also sets aside $400,000 for emergency legal counsel and $500,000 for improvements on Westlake Drive. Mayor Linda Anthony said the reserve funds for Westlake Drive are listed in the resolution because City Council is unsure whether the road improvements will be funded in fiscal year 2016-17.
