Members of the West Lake Hills City Council signed a resolution May 25 declaring the service or logo signs on Loop 360 “ugly, distracting and visually polluting.”

The signs, maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation and erected by Lonestar Logos, are positioned on either side of Loop 360 near the intersection of Bee Caves Road and on the exit ramp to Bee Caves Road. They were installed in March and display the logos of nearby businesses.

Mayor Linda Anthony called the signs an “abomination” during the May 25 City Council meeting.

The resolution council signed asks TxDOT to take the service signs down. It also asks that the state statute be amended to disallow these types of service signs from being placed on scenic roadways.

On May 9, Lost Creek resident Paul Schumann posted a petition asking the Texas Department of Transportation to remove the signs and asking state lawmakers to amend an ordinance that would ban the signs on the scenic roadway.

Anthony requested the petition be placed on the city’s website.

“It’s very cheap advertising,” she said of the signs.

Schumann said he plans to close the petition May 31 and is hoping for at least 500 signatures.
