One of the Austin metro's largest employers, Dell Technologies is cutting jobs within its sales team, a company representative confirmed with Community Impact on Aug. 9.

The overview

A spokesperson for Dell, which operates two of its five global offices in Austin and Round Rock, said the company is always assessing its business to remain competitive and ensure it’s “set up to deliver the best innovation, value and service to our customers and partners.”

News of Dell’s workforce reduction comes as the tech manufacturer has adopted a new strategy to sell its storage solution products through the company’s partners.

Quote of note

“Some members of our sales team will leave the company. We don’t make these decisions lightly, and we’ll support those impacted as they transition to their next opportunity,” a company representative said in a statement to Community Impact.

Some context

In February, Dell Technologies reported it was going to cut more than 6,500 jobs, or around 5% of its workforce. Meanwhile, construction on a new data center by Las Vegas company Switch is underway, with the new site going in adjacent to the Dell Technologies campus in Round Rock. The Switch campus is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
