Bee Cave City Council voted to call an election for mayor and two council positions on May 2.

Former Mayor Monty Parker announced his resignation Dec. 16, citing an employment opportunity closer to the San Antonio area. Since Parker left, Mayor Pro Tem Bill Goodwin has taken over and will continue to do so until the election establishes a new mayor.

Council Member Kara King has already begun campaigning to be the next mayor of Bee Cave, and City Manager Clint Garza said Goodwin and Council Member Jon Cobb, the other seat up for election, could run for another term on council. Garza also said if King is not elected, she could retain her council seat.

King explained that if a council seat ends up vacant as a result of the election, then City Council would appoint a member for one year until the next election.

Those seeking to run for a spot on the May ballot may submit an application starting Jan. 15, and the deadline to submit an application is Feb. 14 at 5 p.m.
