Citing an immediate employment opportunity closer to the San Antonio area, Bee Cave Mayor Monty Parker has announced via his Facebook page that he is resigning his post by 5 p.m. Dec. 16.

"This very difficult but necessary decision was motivated by an employment opportunity I will be accepting that will require my full-time efforts," Parker said. "Even though I’m not a young man, the fire in my gut to continue working and applying my professional skillset is as hot as ever, and having this chance to participate in making this new venture a reality was one I didn’t want to pass up."

Parker announced in October he would not run for a second term as part of the upcoming May election.

Bee Cave City Manager Clint Garza said the city charter has a provision for this situation.

"Mayor Pro Tem Bill Goodwin will run the meetings until May, and then whoever wins the mayoral race in May will take over after that," Garza said.

Parker, who was elected May 2018, added he is extremely proud of all of the city's accomplishments while he was mayor and reiterated his support of Council Member Kara King's bid for mayor.

"It has truly been an honor serving as a Commissioner, a City Council Member and most recently as your Mayor, and I hope everyone always knew, whether we agreed or not, that I gave the best effort possible to my job and in making Bee Cave even better than it already was," Parker said in his social media post. "As a soon-to-be former elected official and citizen, I will continue to follow what’s happening in Bee Cave and hope to stay in touch with many of you."

Parker did not immediately return a call to Community Impact Newspaper for followup information.
