Georgetown Health Foundation added $1.1 million to its financial contributions to health care provider Lone Star Circle of Care, the foundation announced June 12.
The donations include $750,000 in cash and $368,000 in financial support to help reduce facilities expenses in 2014, according to a news statement.
The funds are on top of the $524,000 in annual support the foundation gives the nonprofit to serve uninsured patients in Georgetown.
The foundation is the second major financial backer this month to come to LSCC's aid following the nonprofit's recent financial crisis. On June 5, St. David's Foundation announced that it gave $1 million to help LSCC stabilize its operations.
"We believe in the mission of Lone Star Circle of Care and their ability to reach financial stability or we would not commit to such funding," said Doak Fling, Georgetown Health Foundation board chairman. "They are working hard and being as transparent as possible, given a greatly reduced staff, in their efforts to reach that goal.
"Most of all, Georgetown Health Foundation is in full support of LSCC's mission to serve the uninsured and underinsured in Central Texas and especially in Williamson County."
In response to funding shortfalls resulting from failed strategic gambles, in May LSCC laid off 185 of its roughly 660 positions, closed clinics in Austin, consolidated services in Round Rock, closed school-engaged clinics throughout Central Texas, shrunk dental services and stopped offering optometry.
