Occupation: County attorney

Experience: Not provided

Why are you the best candidate for the job?

DH: I have a passion for this job. I have experience in every aspect of what this office handles, and I have created an office and an atmosphere that has been a template for other offices to follow. I will do what is right, under the law regardless of external pressure.

If elected, what will be your top priority?

DH: First, deal with damage caused by COVID-19 on vulnerable populations. Those suffering mental heath issues, those caught in domestic violence situations, and children being abused or neglected. Second, continue the ground breaking use of technology to maximize our efforts. Third, meaningful mental health reform and advancement of those services.

How will you use your position to help Williamson County recover from the impacts of COVID-19?

Dh: The County Attorney position is crucial to the community’s recovery. The County Attorney’s Office helps abused & neglected children, victims of domestic violence, individuals battling addiction, veterans suffering repercussions from their service, and those in mental health crisis. All of these areas need continuous emphasis as we recover from COVID-19.

Occupation: Government attorney

Experience: Previously with Smith County District Attorney's Office in Tyler, Texas for six and a half years and currently service as Assistant Counsel to Williamson County.

Why are you the best candidate for the job?

SS: I have an understanding of government law while my opponent is only a criminal lawyer. I am prepared to manage the county attorney's office base on my experience as the former appointed county attorney in Tyler, Texas, where I advised all department heads over both civil and criminal law matters.

If elected, what will be your top priority?

SS: The office is currently mismanaged with too high of a turnover rate and clogged court dockets, which costs the taxpayers more due to inefficiencies. My goal is to restore good management, focus on core functions, provide stability and uphold public safety.

How will you use your position to help Williamson County recover from the impacts of COVID-19?

SS: As the chief legal advisor to the county, I will provide legal opinions and support during public health and safety operations, including giving legal advice to county commissioners and the Emergency Operations Center.
