What to expect
The city, in conjunction with partners such as the Texas Department of Transportation and Georgetown ISD, will construct new traffic signals at the following intersections:
- SE Inner Loop at Snead Drive and Blue Springs Boulevard
- Status: In the beginning stages of design
- Williams Drive at CR 245
- Status: Permanent signal will be complete this spring
- CR 245 and Ronald Reagan
- Status: TxDOT solicited contractors in September to construct signal
- Lakeway Boulevard at Northwest Boulevard
- Status: Construction to begin in late spring
- Hwy. 29 and Parkside Parkway
- Status: Ongoing coordination with GISD to install a signal by the end of summer
Other intersection projects include:
- FM 1460 at Quail Valley Drive and High Tech Drive
- Project: Add hooded left turns and other improvements
- Status: Schematic design complete
- Williams Drive at Bootys Crossing Road and Lakeway Drive
- Project: Water line and landscaping improvements
- Status: Construction to begin this spring
- West University Drive at Scenic Drive
- Project: Add right-turn lanes
- Status: Construction to begin early this year
- Williams Drive at Wildwood Drive
- Project: Add right-turn lanes
- Status: Construction to begin later this year
- Lakeway Drive from Airport Road to Owen Harper Way
- Project: Add a hooded left turn and median islands
- Status: Funding options under evaluation
In addition to constructing new signals, the city is taking on a traffic signal upgrade project utilizing $2.5 million approved in the most recent budget.The
Georgetown Public Works Department maintains 82 traffic signals, 47 of which were acquired from TxDOT in 2023. The project will ensure all traffic signals have upgraded controllers, battery backups and detection technology.
“Many of the TxDOT signals require significant upgrades to meet city standards,” Public Works Director Eric Johnson said.
