Part of Southwestern Boulevard in Georgetown will be closed until February, with a detour available for drivers to accommodate for construction to widen the road.

The section of Southwestern Boulevard from Raintree Drive to Davidson Ranch Road closed Nov. 11 to begin Phase 1 of a construction project that will transform the road into four lanes, according to a city of Georgetown email.

Traffic on Southwestern Boulevard will be rerouted to use Davidson Ranch Road and University Park Drive, and drivers can also use SE Inner Loop to reach Churchill Farms Drive, which turns into University Park Drive.

The $6 million project is funded through Georgetown’s 2015 transportation bond, according to the email.

According to the email, the Southwestern Boulevard project also includes:
  • New water and wastewater lines
  • Drainage improvements
  • A traffic signal at Southwestern Boulevard and SE Inner Loop
The project is expected to finish by July 6, according to the city of Georgetown’s website.
