Ongoing projects


1. Georgetown officials are developing a plan to repair the Austin Avenue bridges, which are structurally sufficient but expected to present future safety concerns due to deterioration. City staff has identified five possible options for repairs of the bridges, which were built in 1940. Estimated timeline: Public meetings expected in late 2017

2. Initial improvements along the Williams Drive corridor are expected to focus on relieving traffic following Georgetown City Council approval of a final draft of the corridor improvement plan in July. The plan, which aims to improve mobility on one of the city’s most congested roadways, also includes improvements to pedestrian and bicycle access and aesthetic upgrades. Estimated timeline: Initial improvements anticipated within the next four years



Recent updates


3. University Avenue repaving: Repaving began in August along a stretch of University Avenue between I-35 and Inner Loop. The $1 million project is overseen by the Texas Department of Transportation. Timeline: August-spring 2018


4. Mays Street extension: Final paving began in August on a project to extend Mays Street from Teravista Parkway and Bass Pro Drive in Round Rock to the intersection of Westinghouse and Rabbit Hill roads in Georgetown. The $6.4 million development cost is shared between the cities; Georgetown is contributing about $4.6 million. Timeline: October 2016-fall 2017

5. FM 1460 widening, realignment: TxDOT continues to oversee construction that will widen and realign FM 1460 from Quail Valley Drive in Georgetown to just north of University Boulevard in Round Rock. The construction cost is estimated at $11.9 million. Timeline: February 2016-spring 2018

GoGeo transit system: Georgetown’s first fixed-route transit system launched Aug. 21. The system includes four bus routes with access to a variety of locations. Georgetown Public Library, located at 402 W. Eighth St., serves as a transfer center. Timeline: August 2017
