Labatt Food Services, the 10th largest food service distributor in the country, has plans to build a new warehouse and additional facilities in Jarrell.

The company is in negotiations with Williamson County to enter a tax abatement agreement for the development near I-35 and Ronald Reagan Boulevard.

The details

Williamson County Commissioners Court approved a public notice for the tax abatement agreement with Labatt Food Services at an Aug. 5 meeting.

According to the notice, Labatt Food Services plans to build an 150,000-square-foot warehouse and ancillary facilities on a 48-acre tract in Jarrell. The estimated cost for the project, which includes the buildings, property improvements, machinery and other equipment, amounts to $42 million.

Digging deeper

Tax abatement agreements are an economic incentive tool that usually entail exempting or reducing property taxes for a period of time. Because negotiations are ongoing, the specific terms of the abatement with Labatt Food Services are not finalized, according to the county.

What they’re saying

Precinct 3 County Commissioner Valerie Covey said the county has been working with Labatt Food Services for a “long time” to make plans for water infrastructure, which will also benefit the surrounding area.

“It’s going to be a really good business for the town of Jarrell,” Covey said.

Commissioners will consider approving the agreement at its Sept. 9 meeting.
