Georgetown officials celebrated a construction turning point for the city’s first downtown parking garage April 8.

Elected officials, construction workers and engineers gathered at a “topping out” ceremony, which signifies the uppermost deck of the $23.11 million garage being poured, according to a city of Georgetown Facebook post.

The garage will add 315 parking spaces to the downtown area and is set to finish construction by the end of 2025—hopefully before the “busy” Christmas season begins, Georgetown Mayor Josh Schroeder said at the ceremony.

“This project is a significant milestone towards our downtown master plan that allows us to provide public parking as an amenity to the folks that come to visit our community,” Schroeder said.

The four-level project broke ground March 26, 2024.

Why now?

The garage is expected to alleviate the rising demand for downtown parking options and lessen the amount of visitors defaulting to neighborhood streets for parking relief, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

Schroeder called the garage an “investment” in Georgetown, and said he hopes the city will have several more garages in the future to help enhance the environment created in downtown Georgetown and at the historic square.
