In an effort to encourage water conservation, the city of Georgetown is now accepting applications for water rebates from residents.

What you need to know

The city budgeted $500,000 for rebates in fiscal year 2024-25, and water customers could qualify for up to $5,000—a recent increase city council approved for FY 2024-25, according to the city’s website.

Services must be completed on or after Oct. 1 to be eligible. According to Georgetown’s website, residents can receive rebates for:
  • A digital hose water timer: up to $25
  • An underground irrigation checkup inspection: $75
  • Removing an irrigation zone: up to $100
  • Aerating and composting a lawn: up to $100
  • Installing a pool cover: up to $150
  • A smart controller replacement: up to $150
  • Georgetown’s Texas Grown Tree Residential program: up to $600
  • Multistream nozzle conversions: up to $600
  • Permanently removing an entire irrigation system: up to $600
  • Harvesting rainwater: $0.50 per gallon or up to $600 annually
  • Native landscaping with Georgetown’s Love Your Local Lawn materials: up to $3,000
The specifics

Residents will receive rebates on a first-come, first-served basis, as funding is limited to the amount set aside in the FY 2024-25 budget, according to the release. In FY 2023-24, Georgetown distributed over $304,000 in rebates to 3,174 residents.

Rebates are processed through the city’s customer portal, which can take around a month, according to Georgetown’s website.

Customers will see the credit appear on their water bill, and residents who receive rebates at or above $600 will receive a W-9 from the city and must note it on a 1099 tax form.
