The city of Georgetown officially launched its new website Aug. 21 to improve user experience and organization.

The gist

The new website, www.georgetowntexas.gov, has major changes, including a new URL, a search function and an updated layout. The site’s homepage has four drop-down menus, quick links, a latest news list, an event calendar and links to Georgetown’s social media pages.

The website now uses a .gov domain, which is available exclusively to verified government entities. The .gov URL enhances security and reduces possible cybersecurity threats, a feature not associated with the former georgetown.org website, according to the city’s website.

The four drop-down tabs at the top of the site are, “Residents,” “Business,” “Explore,” and “How Do I ... ?” Each tab includes three to five additional sections where residents can click on links to pay bills, find City Council meeting information, explore nearby parks and more.

Inquiries can be plugged into the search bar, and more general results are found by clicking on the right tab labeled “All of Georgetown, TX.”

What else?

The city began working with Revize in September 2022, said Aly Van Dyke, Georgetown’s director of communications and public engagement. Revize is a web design agency that specializes in creating government websites, according to its website.

Van Dyke headed up the city’s migration to the new website after City Council approved the contract, she said in an email to Community Impact.

Residents can still contact city employees through their .org email addresses. The site matches the Americans with Disabilities Act language-access requirements, with over 80 selections.

Those struggling to navigate the new site or residents who have nonemergency feedback can submit an online form to the city.
