Downtown and Tourism Director Kim McAuliffe will share with the council feedback city staff have received on the city’s plan, which was last updated and adopted in 2014. The plan, meant to provide city officials with guidance on how to preserve and develop the downtown area, has traditionally focused on areas that include business prosperity, parking, pedestrian access, public art and more.
Topics city staff have heard from community stakeholders on include maintaining a family-friendly environment, downtown events and programming, connections to local trails and green spaces, building height and density, housing diversity, and maintaining and enhancing the city’s historical and cultural identity.
The city is expected to have a project website up and running in early February, while an online survey will be held two weeks prior to Williamson County’s 175th anniversary celebration, which is March 10-11.
Council members will also have a discussion and hear a presentation on the new parking garage going in on Austin Avenue, including what changes have been made to the design after receiving feedback from the Historic and Architectural Review Commission. The project is slated for completion in the fall or winter 2024.
The workshop will be held at the Council and Court Building, located at 510 W. 9th St., starting at 2 p.m. A regular session of the Georgetown City Council will begin at 6 p.m.
