Williamson County Commissioner Cynthia Long was elected chair of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization by the organization’s policy board Jan. 13.

Long—who represents most of Cedar Park and Leander as well as Liberty Hill and part of Austin—was unanimously voted to take the position for 2020 after serving as vice chair in 2019.

CAMPO is the regional transportation planning agency for Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson counties. The organization distributes funding for regional projects, such as a project to
extend New Hope Drive in Cedar Park from Ronald Reagan Boulevard to CR 175.

Long has represented Williamson County on the 21-person CAMPO transportation policy board since 2007.

County Judge Bill Gravell and fellow commissioners congratulated Long during the Commissioners Court's Jan. 14 meeting.

Gravell said the appointment is a sign that Williamson County is no longer the small county to the north but is a major player in the region.

"The work you do here in Williamson County is important," Gravell said. "
Thank you for making Williamson County now be a lighthouse to the world."
