Georgetown City Council districts 2 and 6 will not appear on the May ballot because neither incumbent drew an opponent during the candidate filing period.

The city received four applications during the candidate filing period for the May 6 election; two individuals filed to run for mayor, and the incumbents for districts 2 and 6, Shawn Hood and Jake French, filed documents seeking re-election.

According to a recent city
news release, uncontested elections are canceled under state law, and the sole candidate for each race will serve the next term.

Consequently, the elections for council districts 2 and 6 were canceled at the City Council meeting Feb. 28.

More information on the election process in Georgetown can be found on the city's website.
