The first building of the new campus that broke ground in May will hold a maximum of 750 students, with class sizes coming in at about 25 to 27 students per classroom, said Tracie Seed, Central Texas director of communication and marketing for Harmony Public Schools.
About the project
The first phase of the campus will house prekindergarten through sixth grade, Seed said. The school will add a new grade level each year, until it is a pre-K-12 institution, she said.
Construction of the building is on schedule to be completed in May, she said.
Total costs for the construction of the first building are $24.36 million, Seed said. The cost of the next two buildings, the middle school and high school that will complete the campus, is not yet available.
What you need to know
Harmony Science Academy Georgetown will offer a science, technology, engineering and math-focused education to its students, Seed said.
The campus will also incorporate character-driven curriculum, Seed said, known as character education, which seeks to strengthen the character of students and enhance success not only in an academic setting, but in relationships as well.
What they're saying
Seed said the school has received much interest from the community, as well as support.
"They were very welcoming to us and arms wide open," she said. "We feel very comfortable coming in here, and it's a home now for our new campus."
The details
The public charter school selects students via lottery, which will be held Feb. 13. Interested families will have until Feb. 10 to submit applications to the charter system.
Seed said that families who are not selected to attend the school via lottery system will be put on a waitlist. Students who are accepted or waitlisted will not have to reapply for the following school year.
