Georgetown ISD has created a new committee to assist in working toward the goal of creating a balanced budget.

What you need to know

In an Oct. 21 board meeting, GISD Superintendent Devin Padavil shared that the committee held its first meeting last month. The budget and compensation committee, he said, is one of several feedback committees established by the district.

This committee is charged not only with providing feedback to administrators about the district's budget as it works to balance expenses and revenues, but also to find ways to improve employee compensation, Padavil said.

In their own words

"As we think through this, it's really important that we acknowledge there are a lot of ideas that are going to look great on paper, but we also have to acknowledge how are the people in the organization doing, and what is the impact on the culture," Padavil said.

Padavil said the district was able to reduce its budget by $3.5 million in the 2023-24 school year, and is working toward balancing its budget as well as building up reserves.
