Georgetown ISD is again observing Walk and Roll to School Day on Oct. 8, encouraging students to take more active methods of transportation to get to and from school.

The district also participated in the national activity earlier in May.

What you need to know

In partnership with the city of Georgetown, GISD is participating in the national event promoted by The National Center for Safe Routes to School. The organization's Bike and Roll events encourage healthier habits for students participating and promotes driver safety.

School staff and members of the Georgetown police and fire departments will be present in school zones to promote safety during the event, per the district.

What they're saying

“We are excited to partner with our local public safety officials for Walk and Roll to School Day, an event that not only promotes health and wellness for our students but also highlights the importance of safety in our community,” Superintendent Devin Padavil said in a release from the district. “It’s an opportunity to work closely with our local public safety officials and educate the community on safety awareness in school zones.”
