As Georgetown ISD continues to plan for growth in its student population, district officials are moving forward with plans to purchase a property for a future school.

What happened

The GISD board of trustees voted to allow the district's superintendent to enter a contract to purchase 11.47 acres of land in the district's northwest, near the rapidly growing Santa Rita Ranch and Parmer Ranch communities, during a Sept. 3 workshop.

Per the district, details including the exact location and cost to purchase the land will be forthcoming as a deal to secure the property is finalized.

The site is planned for a future school, as well as to improve access to the district's bus barn, per district documents.

While details about the cost of the sale are not yet available, Superintendent Devin Padavil highlighted that the funds used to secure the property come from voter approved bonds, not the maintenance and operations budget, which funds teacher salaries.
