With the opening of the new Benold Middle School comes a change in mascot, Principal Brandon Jayroe said ahead of the ribbon-cutting. This change was made in the recognition that students attending Benold will attend either of its two comprehensive high schools, Georgetown High School and East View High School, which are represented by the eagles and patriots, respectively.

Jayroe said the new Benold Middle School's mascot will be the Benold bears, previously known as eagles.

What they're saying

"To the parents and community members that are here, I want to thank you for your support of Georgetown ISD and the rapid growth of one of the fastest-growing communities in the country," GISD Superintendent Devin Padavil said. "I think we all know when it comes to an exceptional school, it's more than just a building, it's more than the resources we pour into the building, what makes and will make this an amazing school are the experiences and the outcomes of our students."
