McCasland Christian Academy officials announced July 31 the school's name is changing to Georgetown Christian Academy to better reach new families in the community.

Along with the name change, the kindergarten through fifth grade school will celebrate the grand opening of its 5-acre campus at 3309 Shell Road, Georgetown, on Aug. 10. While the school has had the campus for two years, it previously housed only third through fifth grade students, while younger grade levels were at the Acrotex Gymnastics building at 3100 S. I-35, Georgetown, said DeLaine Hewlett, development coordinator for the school.

The school's history dates back to the early 1990s when Mrs. Mac’s Shining Stars day care opened. By 2009, it had grown to be a full kindergarten through fifth grade school.

The elementary school faced closing around the onset of the pandemic, but came under new ownership and was named McCasland’s Christian Academy.

Currently, it serves about 80 students, and prides itself on small classroom sizes, and providing biblical foundations and strong academics.
