Georgetown ISD is proposing seven new courses as part of its annual process to consider additions for new course offerings at the secondary level.
Terri Conrad, GISD's chief strategist for learning and design, said the list of proposed courses was relatively light this year, because there were no changes to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills—or TEKS. She said in years when the state rewrites standards, then there are more new course additions.
Conrad said the proposed courses are important for students to continue their studies in language and fine arts as well as career and technical education.
They include one middle school course—Level III Spanish for Spanish speakers—and six high school courses—Musical Theater I, Digital Art and Media II, Functional Fitness for special education students, Practicum in Audio/Visual Production, Commercial Photograph 2, and Practicum in Business Management.
The board of trustees will consider adopting these new courses Dec. 12.
