The Georgetown ISD Education Foundation awarded $34,125 in collaborative grants to a total of 50 teachers during a surprise grant patrol consisting of Georgetown Education Foundation board members, local business sponsors and GISD administration, according to a May 17 release.

The purpose of the grant program is to fund educational projects that align with the district’s Learner Profile and impact student learning.

“It’s rewarding to see the joy on teachers' faces as they learn that their project has been funded,” said Greg Bowden, foundation board member, in the release. “The program was designed to allow teachers to submit innovative project ideas, in collaboration with their peers, that might not otherwise be funded through the district’s budget.”

Thirteen grants were awarded to teachers from nine campuses.

Programs include a book club at Benold Middle School, DNA analysis at Georgetown High School and STEM engineering at Williams Elementary School.

This is the sixth year for the foundation’s annual collaborative grant program.
