Georgetown ISD will host a parade through downtown Georgetown to honor graduating seniors, it announced April 25.

The parade will take place at 9 a.m. on May 29, and all Georgetown, East View and Richarte high school seniors are invited to participate. Each senior will also be allowed one car with additional guests allowed to ride along.

The parade route has not yet been finalized, and the district is also working to share the event in a live radio broadcast, the website said.

"Community members, friends and family are encouraged to support seniors by being appropriately distanced along the route either in your car, on the sidewalks or from your home/business," the district website said. "Everyone is asked to abide by social distancing guidelines and current county/city orders during the event for safety."

Individual campus principals are also working on alternative graduation plans, including cap and gown distribution, valedictorian and salutatorian speeches, and the handing out of diplomas, it said. Those events will have limited community participation, it said.

On April 17, GISD announced it would remain closed for the remainder of the school year.
