Georgetown ISD closed on a 135-acre tract of land during its Dec. 16 meeting.
The land is located in the southwestern portion of the school district and will allow for the future development of an elementary, middle and high school site to accommodate for increased enrollment as Georgetown grows, district officials said.
The site is located west of D.B. Wood and south of Cedar Breaks Park roads.
"We watch growth trends closely with our demographer, and the southwest portion of our district is an area we've been watching for some time," GISD Superintendent Fred Brent said in a news release. "With the development of areas like Wolf Ranch and Water Oak, projections show we could need new school sites in the next 5-10 years in this area."
In November 2018, voters approved a $150.5 million bond package that included funding for land. The district would need to pass a future bond measure to design and construct schools, officials said.
