Chuck Griffin was named the new head coach for the Georgetown High School football team beginning in the fall, Georgetown ISD announced in a March 29 news release. Griffin returns to Georgetown following two years in Abilene ISD, where he served as assistant athletic director, the release said. “We are excited to have Chuck back in Georgetown,” GISD Superintendent Fred Brent said in a statement. “His leadership under Jason Dean contributed to the stability and success of that program.” During Griffin’s tenure in Georgetown, he helped end a nine-year playoff drought by leading teams to seven playoff games and a regional semifinalist victory, the release said. In 2016, he was selected as FCA All-Star Coach and coordinated the offense for the north team. “His leadership qualities and knowledge of our district and this program make Chuck the right fit to move this program forward,” Brent said.
