Georgetown's newest Vietnamese restaurant, Pho MPH, offers a family-friendly atmosphere and extensive menu of home-style cooking.

The spot opened in 2022, following two other Pho MPH locations in the Austin area, including The Triangle and South Austin.

The backstory

While Pho MPH first came to Austin in 2020, the owner, Tanh Tran, is no stranger to running restaurants.

Before moving to Round Rock, Tran ran a pho restaurant in Denver for over 15 years, along with a flower shop.

"He loves cooking. All of the recipes are his, even the sauces are handmade," said Dani Mai, the restaurant's manager.

Mai said Tran's love for flowers is evident throughout the dining room, which is decorated with custom floral designs.

What's on the menu

Pho MPH serves a variety of Vietnamese staples, including pho soup, bahn mi sandwiches, pad thai, fried rice and vermicelli noodle bowls. They also offer other Asian cuisines, such as curries, wontons and poke bowls.

For dessert, patrons can enjoy milk teas, Japanese sodas, smoothies and slushies.

Additionally, customers can choose from a selection of sakes and wines hand-picked to complement Asian cuisine.

What's special about it

The broth used for the pho is made by cooking bone for 17 hours, and Mai said no MSG is used to flavor their food.

"We try to make it like a home-cooked dinner. We want families to come here and get the same quality as they would at home without the effort," Mai said.

Mai said that while many people in Georgetown know about Vietnamese food, they don't have many options local to them.

What's in a name

A common misconception among new customers is the meaning of MPH, which they mistake for "miles per hour," Mai said.

In reality, the acronym contains the three first initials of Tran's children, a nod to his family-oriented dining concept.
