Residents can expect to see additional construction near the Georgetown Public Library through mid-February as officials continue working on nine different waterline improvements downtown.

What’s happening?

The waterline project started in December 2024 and will improve reliability and replace aged waterlines, according to the city’s website.

Officials began working on Waterline D—which runs through parts of Forest Street, Eighth Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Street—in mid-January.

Diving in deeper

Parking spots along Forest Street will not be available while construction crews close the road for excavation and installation, a city official said in an email to Community Impact.

Additionally, a section of parking in front of the library will be blocked off for construction over the next couple weeks, according to a Georgetown Public Library Facebook post from Jan. 27.

Looking ahead

The waterline project is expected to reach full completion on May 10, 2025. Design and construction is expected to cost $3.25 million, and funding comes from revenue bonds, per the city’s website.
