Local nonprofit The Caring Place began construction July 31 to expand its donations warehouse, temporarily affecting the organization’s donation hours and drop-off location while the project is underway.

Two-minute impact

The construction will enclose the existing donations warehouse, make it level against the slope it’s on, add 5,000 square feet and install air conditioning, The Caring Place Executive Director Ginna O’Connor said.

“The purpose of this project is to help expand our capacity to help our neighbors,” O’Connor said.

There is not an expected end date for construction, but O’Connor said they anticipate it taking several months.

The Caring Place helps families in crisis in Georgetown and northern Williamson County by providing financial assistance, case management services, food programs, and vouchers for clothing and household goods. The organization is supported through the operation of two thrift stores.

What else?

After closing the donations drop-off area from July 25-30, The Caring Place is now accepting donations again.
  • Regular donations: Mon.-Sat., 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • Food donations: Mon.-Wed. and Fri., 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Signage is posted to guide donors to the new donations drop-off location behind the store at 2000 Railroad Ave., according to a news release.

Parking will be limited during construction, but spots will be available on both sides of Railroad Avenue, at The Caring Place’s Programs and Services building and at its north parking lot.

Guests cannot block the public crosswalk on the sidewalk with street parking, O’Connor said.
