What we reported

The development of a new learning model, aging buildings and enrollment growth have been guiding influences for Georgetown ISD as the district has undertaken a makeover of more than half of its facilities and built two new schools since voters approved a $160.6 million bond package in November 2015.

The latest

New campuses for Purl Elementary School and Wagner Middle School opened to students in August and December, respectively. GISD's board of trustees approved in July the purchase of 79 acres of land in and around Georgetown to build new schools. The district announced in October that its total enrollment now tops 11,500 students, and an increase of 2,400 additional students is expected within the next five years.

What's Next

Projects funded by the 2015 bond will continue into the new year, district officials said. At Tippit Middle School, renovations to the cafeteria and other common areas are anticipated to finish in late July. The half of the classrooms that were not renovated last summer will be done in summer 2018 while students are on vacation. This story is one update from The January Issue.
