Correction: This was not the first confirmed COVID-19 case for Georgetown ISD, other cases have also been confirmed.

A individual at Mitchell Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19, the school announced Sept. 16. This is the first reported case for Georgetown ISD.

The school said it was notified of the case Sept. 16 but did not give further details or specify if the individual is a student or staff member.

Campus officials said anyone who was determined to have been in close contact with this individual has been notified so they can be tested and/or monitored for symptoms.

“Our custodial teams take great care in cleaning our facilities daily and extra attention was given to sanitizing the areas where this individual spends their day. Please rest assured that it is safe to return to school tomorrow,” the release said.

Students returned to on-campus learning Sept. 10 after starting the 2020-21 school with three weeks of virtual learning.

On Sept. 16, GISD launched a COVID-19 dashboard. So far, 18 cases have been confirmed.
