Williamson County added more than 2,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in August, according to Williamson County and Cities Health District data.

Between Aug. 1-31, the county confirmed 2,234 additional cases of the coronavirus, jumping from 5,715 to 7,949—or 39.09%—over the course of the month.

In the month prior, Williamson County added 3,376 new cases, data shows.

The number of deaths increased 57.69% in August, from 78 to 123, data shows.

Counted deaths are of those who have COVID-19 listed as a direct cause of death on the death certificate. A medical certifier, usually a doctor, determines the causes of death. The Texas Department of State Health Services does not include deaths of people who had COVID-19 but died of an unrelated cause, according to the DSHS dashboard.


While the number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 remained steady, the county continued to see a drop in the number of reported active cases. Williamson County had 124 reported active cases on Aug. 31.

The county reported its first four cases of coronavirus March 18.
