Georgetown ISD is offering counseling and mental health services for students and families while it is closed due to the coronavirus, according to its website.

On March 31, the district announced it would extend school closures through at least May 1. A coronavirus projection report by The University of Texas at Austin recommend schools remain closed until Aug. 17, but a decision has not yet been made by GISD officials as of April 8.

Here are the mental health services provided:

  • School counselors: Counselors are available to respond to emails, and appointments can be made to connect with a parent or student via phone or video conferencing if needed.

  • Teletherapy: Parents/guardians of students in grades 6-12 can request teletherapy if you feel as though your student needs more ongoing support.

  • Family therapy: STARRY counseling services are available via telehealth at no cost to students and families with children birth to high school age. STARRY is working to increase resilience in families at this time through youth and family sessions that reduce family conflict and increase coping skills.

For Texans experiencing anxiety, stress or emotional challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic there is a 24/7 mental health support line to help at 833-986-1919.
