Georgetown City Council approved several purchases and an expansion project for Georgetown Water Services at its March 22 meeting.

City Council approved a $175 million contract with PLW Waterworks for the construction of the South Lake Water Treatment Plant and an additional $1.8 million with CDM Smith for design, permitting, and site investigation work of a wastewater line for the new plant.

The new South Lake Water Treatment Plant will increase the city's water capacity from 39.6 million gallons per day to 83.6 million.

In conjunction with the new plant, the city will implement an expansion to its wastewater collection system.

According to data from October, the city provides water to 50,799 residential and commercial customers. This expansion will help offset the projected growth in Georgetown in the coming years.

The city also plans to annex 18.52 acres at 1010 Crockett Gardens Road for the project with a first reading for that scheduled for May 10.

Additional projects include the purchase of wastewater chemicals valued at $730,000; Aqualum Polymer Blend 3012 for water treatment in the approximate amount of $106,315.00 annually; and a $259,888 contract with Terracon Consultants Inc. for materials testing and inspection services for the South Lake Water Treatment Plant.
