Williamson County broke ground on the realignment project of CR 176 on Aug. 2.

The $2.45 million project would reconstruct and widen CR 176 from RM 2243 to Parkside Parkway. Funding for the project comes from the 2013 voter-approved road bond.

“We are going to break ground today on a very small project, but a very important one,” Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey said. “An important [project] for safety and mobility in this ever-growing area.”

The realignment of CR 176 to Leander Road will take out two 90-degree turns, Covey said. The project will also connect a portion of the Water Oak neighborhood at San Gabriel, and will also expand the county’s trail system to connect into the Georgetown trail system.

The project is anticipated to be completed spring 2020.

Covey said the project will help the county get ahead of continued growth in the area.

“We have a lot to build and a lot to go forward on, and this is a very important piece of that as we try to connect Williamson County with a grid system that will work for the homes that are coming and the businesses that will be here,” Covey said.
