What we reported

Georgetown’s new fixed-route bus system launched in August following a year-long planning and funding process that involved local, regional and nonprofit partners. The system offers service to 45 destinations and operates on weekdays and Saturdays. GoGeo’s costs are split among federal funds through Capital Metro, local funding through Georgetown City Council and a $600,000 grant from the Georgetown Health Foundation that will be paid out over the first three years of the service. Capital Metro consultants who developed the system's bus routes sought to provide service to areas of the city that would likely have the most potential ridership based on 2010 Census data. The city of Round Rock also launched its own fixed-route bus system in August in partnership with Capital Metro

What's next

Performance benchmarks built into the GoGeo plan will allow the city to assess the system’s operation over its first three years of service. Evaluation measures, which will be handled by Capital Metro, will help officials in determining if the bus system’s stops are placed properly and functioning to their highest levels.
