In August, Austin-based Avalanche Consulting completed a workforce analysis that provided data on Georgetown’s employers and workers. Analysts recommended Georgetown’s recruitment efforts target three industries: advanced manufacturing, life sciences and professional services. The analysis also found about 75 percent of Georgetown residents work outside of the city, yet people who do not live in Georgetown fill about 75 percent of jobs within the city.

Georgetown decided in December to buy the brand and equipment of the Texas Life-Sciences Collaboration Center, the biotechnology business accelerator located at 111 Cooperation Way off Snead Drive. A purchase agreement will allow the Georgetown Economic Development Corp. to take over the center’s brand for Georgetown’s Economic Development Department to use for marketing and business recruitment purposes focused on the life-sciences industry, according to the city.

Georgetown Economic Development Director Michaela Dollar said her department will develop a new strategic plan in 2018.
