Williamson County commissioners voted Tuesday to approve a $45,000 grant from Texans Feeding Texans, a state Department of Agriculture grant program, to support what Precinct Three Commissioner Valerie Covey described as "basically our Meals on Wheels program."
The money will go toward Opportunities for Williamson & Burnet Counties to support the organization's meal-delivery programs for people who are homebound, elderly or have disabilities. The funds for the grant
were set aside in the county's fiscal year 2017-18 budget, according to county documents.
Commissioners also began work on the county's 2018 capital improvement program. They approved $650,000 from the FY 2017-18 budget to remodel the Williamson County Justice Center at 405 Martin Luther King St., Georgetown, in order for the building to accommodate a backup server room, according to Tuesday's meeting agenda.
The court used leftover funds from previous years' capital improvement programs to put $400,000 toward Cedar Park's
Fire Station No. 5, which will house Williamson County EMS personnel. Commissioners also approved $247,291 for 911-system upgrades.
More decisions regarding 2018 capital improvements will be discussed during future meetings, County Judge Dan Gattis indicated.
