After a month of discussion, Williamson County Commissioners Court voted Tuesday to approve the county's fiscal year 2017-18 budget. The county passed a budget with a general fund of $191,598,091 and an overall county tax rate of just under 47 cents per $100 valuation. The approved general fund tax rate is just under 26 cents per $100 valuation, which reflects a decrease of one cent from the prior fiscal year. The road and bridge rate is 4 cents per $100 valuation and the debt service remained the same at nearly 17 cents per $100 valuation. In the county's general fund, $7 million will be set aside for capital improvements. The adopted tax rate allowed commissioners to add an additional $4 million, allowing for $11 million to be spent on capital improvements. During the new fiscal year, the county will create 35 new full-time positions, including six emergency medical services personnel to staff a new fire station in Cedar Park The budget does not include any salary increases for elected county officials.
