Georgetown ranked as the 33rd safest city in the state of Texas, according to the fourth annual Safest Cities in Texas report released in early June by SafeWise, a home security company.

SafeWise reviewed the most recent FBI crime statistics from 2015 along with population data to compile its rankings, which listed 50 Texas cities.

Trophy Club, located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, came in as the safest city of 2017, according to the report. Other cities in the top 50 included Colleyville at second, Hutto at fifth and Leander at 26th.

Georgetown was not previously ranked by SafeWise, but the company's recent report showed the city has seen low rates of violent crime and property crime.

Cities included in the report were narrowed down based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft) in each city, according to SafeWise. The report also calculated the likely ratio of crimes occurring per 1,000 residents in each city.

Cities with fewer than 10,000 residents and cities that did not submit complete crime statistics to the FBI were not included in the report, according to SafeWise.
