The Georgetown Animal Shelter is seeking donated items for its annual garage sale in September.
The Friends of the Georgetown Animal Shelter organize the yearly fundraiser, and all proceeds will go to take care of the animals at the shelter. Last year the shelter served 1,860 animals, Animal Services Manager Jackie Carey said.
The shelter is accepting items such as new or gently used furniture, bicycles, decorative items, antiques and collector items. Items including clothing, televisions and computers will not be accepted.
Each year the garage sale typically raises about $7,000 for the shelter, Carey said.
“It’s pretty substantial considering it’s stuff that people no longer want,” she said. “It always amazes me.”
Carey said the money gathered through the garage sale covers services that the shelter's operating budget does not, including heartworm treatments and surgeries.
Items can be delivered on Wednesdays or Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Sept. 16. People can bring donations to the front door of the former Georgetown public library building at 808 Martin Luther King Jr. St. Volunteers will be present to accept donations, and receipts will also be available.
The 16th annual Georgetown Animal Shelter Garage Sale will be Sept. 18 and 19 at the former library from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
