H-E-B donated $500,000 to help build a new YMCA of Central Texas location in Georgetown, marked by a community celebration at Wellspring Church on Aug. 8. The facility would be the first full-service YMCA location in the city, with construction planned to begin later this year.

The history

The YMCA of Central Texas and the city of Georgetown began collaborating to deliver a new YMCA facility in February 2022, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

While the Georgetown Family YMCA has provided after school childcare at Georgetown elementary schools, as well as youth programs and summer day camps at its storefront, the new build will be the city’s first fully-equipped facility. The 53,000-square-foot facility is planned for Williams Drive in Northwest Georgetown, and has an estimated completion date of late 2026.

Although officials have not determined a name for the building, it will include Sports Clips to recognize the business' donations to the project.

The update

H-E-B's donation will contribute to project costs, and a portion of the donation will also fund scholarships for YMCA programs.

“These scholarships ensure that no one is turned away due to financial hardship—affirming our shared belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to grow, connect and lead healthier lives," said Theresa Cirigliano, chief development officer at YMCA of Central Texas.

Georgetown will also contribute funding from a city bond proposition to the construction.
