On the border of Leander and Georgetown, the 177,000-square-foot Bar W Marketplace shopping center continues to bring new retail and restaurants to the growing area. Once fully built out, the shopping center will have more than 30 businesses.

The gist

Developers began eyeing the land near the intersection of Hwy. 29 and Ronald Reagan Boulevard in 2007, said Milo Burdette, vice president of development at Barshop & Oles Company.

"It's the spot where Leander and Georgetown and Liberty Hill were all kind of growing at once, and it felt like there was going to be a lot of people and not many retail services," Burdette said.

Barshop & Oles Company purchased the land in 2017, and once H-E-B signed on, the developers broke ground on construction in 2019.

The H-E-B was the first business to open in the shopping center in November 2021.

Milo said the property is now 96% leased out, but several businesses are still preparing to open within the next year.
