Among the classes and activities Kimberly Keller offers through her art instruction and event business, there is one she affectionately calls her “I can’t” class. On Tuesday mornings, the class, designed for adults who have minimal technical artistic skills, meets to practice the basics of drawing with Keller, an artist and former school teacher who spent 28 years teaching in Georgetown ISD. “I show them how they can draw, step-by-step, with them to try to boost their self-esteem and let them know that their artwork is just as valuable as anybody else’s artwork,” Keller said. The Georgetown native started her business, called Paint With Me Kimberly Keller, in 2013. In September of this year, Keller moved her studio, which was originally located on Rivery Boulevard, to a new location on Shell Road near Sun City in Georgetown. Her new studio space is filled with art supplies and finished paintings, both works that are Keller’s own and a few from her students and clients. Keller said her business initially focused on art and painting-related parties that included sessions allowing clients to follow along with a step-by-step painting while sipping wine, she said. But soon after opening, she decided to expand her offerings to focus more on teaching, she said. Her art-related activities and classes are designed to be fun for clients with a range of skill levels and ages. Today, Keller’s business includes an array of services. She said she tailors her painting classes to cater to a number of different groups and occasions, including birthdays, date nights, or company or club meetings. Classes usually take place in her studio, but Keller can also pack up her supplies and set up in other venues, she said. Along with hosting parties and other events, Keller also organizes classes for older adults dealing with memory-related illnesses and children with special behavioral or educational needs. “I want to encourage anyone who likes art to give it a try, and it may be something that really grows and blossoms,” she said.
