The Georgetown High School Wind Symphony was named a Commended Winner in the 2019 Mark of Excellence/National Wind Band Honors Project in September, according to a Sept. 27 news release.

The Mark of Excellence is a national competition that recognizes music programs for high-performance standards, the release said. Ensembles are judged by nationally respected adjudicators who provide critique and feedback to programs for continued improvement, it said.

"I am incredibly proud of the student musicians of the GHS Wind Symphony,” said band director Justin Smith in the release. “They played professional level literature, not only to a high level but with the sensitivity and maturity of musicians well beyond their years. It is truly a joy to make music with them every day, and I am so proud that they have been recognized on a national level."

There were 320 entries from 38 states submitted for the 2019 competition, the release said.

Georgetown High School is located at 2211 N. Austin Ave., Georgetown.
