What we reported In November, Austin City Council approved the Water Forward Plan, a 100-year master plan that aims to reshape how the city thinks about water storage and consumption. The plan, a three-year effort on behalf of city staff and regional water experts, was approved a month after extreme flooding forced a weeklong citywide water boil notice.
The latest City Council said it wants the plan to move faster than originally projected. Austin Water officials said a robust public outreach program is in the works for stakeholders to weigh in on the more immediate aspects of the plan, which include ordinance changes related to water recycling for new developments and incentive programs for existing water customers related to consumption and landscaping efficiencies.
