Georgetown ISD is offering community members the opportunity to keep a piece of the former Raye McCoy Elementary School for themselves.

The district has made bricks from the former building available for pickup any time before May 10. The brick pile is in the parking lot near Park Street. After May 10, the lot will be cleared, district officials said.

McCoy Elementary, at 1313 Williams Drive, Georgetown, was set for demolition following GISD board of trustees approval during a March 10 meeting.

The school—which has now been relocated to 401 Bellaire Drive, Georgetown—was originally Georgetown Junior High School when it opened in September 1964, according to GISD officials. The school was also previously named Northside Middle School before becoming McCoy Elementary, officials said.

McCoy Elementary was named after a former Spanish teacher who taught juniors and seniors from 1949-77. She then served as a GISD trustee from 1986-89.

The property is slated to be put on the market later this spring.
