The city of Cedar Park and Williamson County held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the two entities' fifth fire station Monday.

The approximately 13,250-square-foot facility is located at 1501 Cottonwood Creek Trail and will serve the northeast and north-central parts of the city, according to a city press release. Cedar Park and Williamson County officials were joined by fire chiefs, directors, firefighters and paramedics from the Cedar Park Fire Department and Williamson County EMS during the groundbreaking at the site Monday.

“This is the latest demonstration of our commitment to public service,” Cedar Park Mayor Matt Powell said. “It’s important that we provide our Fire Department with the best training, equipment and facilities.”

The fire station is located on land that was donated by Cedar Park Regional Medical Center in 2014, according to the city.

The station will house both Cedar Park Fire and Williamson County emergency medical services personnel. It will be the fourth Cedar Park station to have space for EMS. The project includes room for one EMS crew, an EMS commander and future space for a second EMS crew, according to city documents.

In the summer, city council approved a construction contract with Teal Construction, Inc. for $4.4 million for the construction of the station, which came in $573,000 below the anticipated construction budget.

The fire station is funded by 2015 bond election funds, short-term tax notes and through a shared agreement with Williamson County. Construction on the facility officially began in September and is scheduled to be completed by fall of 2018, according to the city.
